On the deluxe ding plan, when choosing an appetizer at a sit down dinner, can you choose a salad or soup or does your item need to be specifically under an appetizer category on the menu?

Hi, Alexis!  So, here's the deal.  I have never heard of a server saying you could not have a soup or salad instead of an appetizer, however, officially, they can refuse the request.  In most cases, the soups or salads may be a bit less expensive, and in the people I've asked, the restaurants across the board have been able to accommodate a request to switch.

Becasue this is not specifically the way the program is spelled out, they do not have to make the substitute, so if you are purchasing this level of dining plan specifically with the option to change in mind, be cautioned that your experience may differ from the others I have spoken to.  Also, if you are looking to switch to a soup or salad on the pricier side, there may not be any chance to switch.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the appetizers are usually more expensive than a soup or salad.  If you opt for the cheaper soup or salad option when it's allowed, you may not be getting the most out of the deluxe dining plan.  I know the best value in the dining plan is usually to look for the more expensive options on the menu.

I hope this helps without making things look too confusing!  Bottom line, your mileage may vary, based on the restaurant.  It doesn't hurt to ask to make the substitution, but make sure it's what you really want to do.

    Have a great vacation!
