We are deciding between two tentative (and flexible by a day before /after) travel time frames: January 5-9 or March 1-5 for WDW. Any thoughts regarding crowds/weather, etc.? Any insight appreciated!

Hi, Michel! With the impending arrival of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge this fall, it's anybody's guess how crowds will be affected going into 2020. I may have to order myself a crystal ball from eBay! However, I do have a couple of tips and tricks that may help you with planning your 2020 trip.

First, let's talk about the weather. Although Mother Nature can be unpredictable, the average high/ low temperature in January is 71/ 48 degrees while in early March it is 75/51 degrees. Not a big difference, but if you're hoping for swimming weather, March might be the better bet.

One thing I know for sure is that Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend will run from January 8-12, 2020. This is a super popular race weekend, and it draws in runners world-wide, which might cause an uptick in the crowd level towards the end of your trip. When planning a Disney Parks trip, I like to use the Crowd Calendar Tool on touringplans.com which is a subscription-based website. It seems like you'll experience lighter crowds if you go with the dates you chose in March, and you will be ahead of the Spring Break crowds which won't start arriving until the middle of the month.  Another great reason to visit in March is the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival. The brightly colored spring flowers and green Disney-themed topiaries will be a sight to see after the cold Michigan winter!

Whatever month you decide on, Michel, remember to take advantage of Extra Magic Hours if you plan on staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel. Even during busier times of the yEAR, this perk makes a big difference!
