Deciding on a resort, what do you think of the Animal Kingdom Lodge?

I stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge for the first time this fall and absolutely loved it. Since the AKL is one of Disney's deluxe resorts, you will find all the normal deluxe amenities such as room service, on-site childcare, and a beautiful pool. But beyond that, the resort itself is visually magnificent. The soaring lobby and African artworks take you to another place. There are several wonderful restaurants at the AKL, at all price points, as well as a lounge. I found my room to be large, clean, and modern.

And of course, who can forget the animals. I had a savannah-view room. Throughout the day I was able to sit my balcony and watch giraffes, ostriches, and other animals grazing just a few yards away from me. Very cool!  But even if you don't have a savannah-view room, there are numerous viewing locations throughout the resort. You are welcome to walk around the hotel and find all the windows onto the animal habitats. Even better, in the evening you can borrow night-vision goggles and view the animals as they behave in the dark.

I really have nothing negative at all to say about the AKL except for one glaring issue: the resort's location. While the AKL is just a five minute bus ride away from the Animal Kingdom. It is a bit removed from almost everything else at WDW. You're going to be taking buses everywhere, which is not the most convenient situation if you're using a stroller. And the travel time to the theme parks is going to be a bit longer than at most of the other deluxe resorts.

Overall, would definitely recommend a stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge.
