Debating on renting a car. Usually use Disney buses only, but considering AKL for 2BR villa option. Is it better to rely on buses than deal w/parking, etc., esp. when it comes to MK days? Don't like long bus waits/times, but worried driving might be worse

    Hi, Jennifer!

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. First, I just have to say that my family are BIG fans of Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge & Villas for so many reasons - the breathtaking architecture, the wonderful dining options (Jiko, Sanaa, Boma, The Mara), the friendly and welcoming staff and, of course, the amazing animals on the savannas!

Animal Kingdom Lodge & Villas is situated slightly off the beaten path at the western side of the Walt Disney World Resort property, but its location is not remote by any means. The Resort has its own dedicated bus service so you will enjoy direct transportation to the theme parks and back. The decision of whether or not to rent a car is really a personal one. Some guests prefer not to drive while on vacation while others like having the flexibility that a rental car affords them. Personally, I have done both options on past trips and have found that I prefer to rent a car for the convenience factor. It's actually very easy to get around Disney property by car: the road signage is excellent and the theme parks are within a 10- to 15-minute drive from Animal Kingdom Lodge & Villas.

On Magic Kingdom days, I think it's really a toss-up between driving or taking the bus. You may prefer to take the bus simply because it drops guests off right at the entrance. But if you plan to take a midday break back at your resort or to dine at another resort, it's really nice to have the convenience of a rental car.

Whichever you choose, rental car or bus service, I know you're going to love your stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge & Villas! It's quite possible that you may not want to stay at any other resort after you've experienced this magnificent oasis!

Wishing you a magical vacation, Jennifer! Please send more questions as you continue planning your trip. I'd be happy to help!
