My daughter just suffered a knee injury and is on crutches and will be using a wheelchair during our trip to Disney. Do we need a GAC? and we were hoping to visit the waterpark but wondered if that would be possible on crutches/wheelchair?

    Hi Amanda,

You generally do not need a guest assistance card if your only medical issue is use of a wheelchair. You can just wheel over to each attraction and the cast member attendant at the ride will tell you which entrance to use. However, you may want to stop by the guest relations office anyway because they do have special brochures which detail the mobility issues with each attraction, which you may find helpful in navigating the parks.

I'm not sure how old your daughter is or what the exact nature of her injury is, but I personally would find it challenging to visit the water parks with a leg problem. First, the water slides are such that you have to step into a tube or lie on a mat, perhaps at an odd angle, and there may be jostling as you proceed down the slide or stop at the bottom. There are stairs everywhere and someone would have to go back and either retrieve the crutches or wheelchair at the top of the ride.

There are some water park attractions that would not pose any problem. For example, the "lazy rivers" have easy entry access points where a wheelchair could go right up to the edge and guests simply drift along. You should certainly speak with your medical caregivers to make any final decisions, but in my opinion there might not be enough for your daughter to do to keep her entertained for the day.

Please let us know if you need other ideas about things to do in your situation. We're happy to help.
