Hi, Allison! I know how difficult it can be to keep insulin regulated while enjoying a theme park vacation! I want to highly recommend that you discuss options that might work best for your daughter. I know on past trips, I've had to alter my insulin schedule, pack extra snacks in my bag, and test my sugars even more frequently than I do at home. Your daughter's doctor might be able to recommend things along those lines that will help you avert a crisis.
It always helps to make advanced dining reservations. You can do that online at
Disney World Dining or you can call 407-933-3463 to make reservations. Reservations can be made up to 180 days in advance.
Even with reservations, you may encounter a delay in being seated. If you're very close to time when she's going to need to eat to avoid a crash, mention that when you check in. There's very little they can do if they are waiting for tables to clear, but they can certainly do their best to turn a table around very quickly. On one occasion, early in my disease, I had no idea how much all the walking could impact my sugar levels, and I was desperate by the time we arrived at the restaurant. They were kind enough to bring me a glass of juice while I waited for our table to be ready.
So, the list of things you can do - get advice from your doctor, make advanced dining reservations, and keep supplies in a bag so you're ready in an emergency! That will help make the trip much more memorable in a GOOD way!
