Welcome aboard, Tawnya!
I have a 13 year-old daughter too! Her favorite vacations are our Disney Cruise Line adventures, so I just know that your soon-to-be teen daughter is in for the time of her life when you set sail with Captain Mickey and his crew.
The
Oceaneer Club and
Oceaneer Lab are the youth clubs for ages three to 12. Your daughter can certainly enjoy those spaces and check out the Star Wars activities there until the day she turns 13 onboard. After that, she'll be too old to go into those clubs during regular programming. However, that doesn't mean she can't still enjoy some of the fun there. In fact, I am obviously too old for the clubs too, but during Open House hours each day, guests of all ages get to check out the club spaces, so even adults can head in, and this is the perfect time for your teen daughter to have some fun in the younger kids' spaces. On one cruise that was just my husband and myself, the two of us anxiously awaited Open House hours in the clubs because we wanted to "pilot" the Millennium Falcon ourselves! Sorry kids, it's our turn! Open House is for all guests!
Now, my teen daughter will tell your almost teen that she is in for WAY more fun in
Edge, the tween club onboard for ages 11-14. In fact, while my daughter used to adore Oceaneer Club and Lab, she soon found she was wanting more "mature" kid fun, which is exactly what she found in Edge. Hanging out with the cool counselors and the other kids her age, participating in activities created just for that age group was way more up her alley than the Club and Lab which are geared much younger. So, I promise your daughter is going to love every moment of her Youth Club time, Tawnya!
Be sure you both download the
Disney Cruise Line Navigator App to your mobile devices. Besides being able to see the clubs' schedule of events once onboard, you'll also have access to the free onboard texting (with cute Disney Cruise Line emoji), so the two of you can keep in touch onboard. Since Edge doesn't require parental check-in and check-out for the tweens, I wanted to be sure my daughter let me know each time she left the club, with whom and where she was headed. This gave me peace of mind that I always knew where she was onboard and could ask her to meet me whenever I needed her.
Have a blast getting ready for this magical adventure, Tawnya, and please stop back over this next year with more questions as you continue counting down to the big sail date! We're happy to help!
