Hi Moms (and Dads)! We normally do our annual Disney trip for the Holidays, but I am looking at the middle of August instead. How is the weather / crowds that time normally?

    Hi Christina,

I've visited Walt Disney World in both August and late December several times. There are some significant differences in the feel of those visits.

The crowd situation in August will be better. The independent website TouringPlans.com tracks and predicts crowd levels. On a scale of 1-10, the week between Christmas and New Years is always a 10. And I'm sure that if the scale went to 11, that would be the ranking.

In mid-August, the crowds at are most at 6-7 level - about a third less crowded. (If you're able to wait until the last week of August, the crowds drop to level 3-4, which is practically empty compared with Christmas.)

The weather is a different story entirely. In December, you're likely to encounter temperatures in the low 70s or perhaps even a bit cooler. This is very comfortable for walking around a theme park. In August, you'll hit temperatures in the 90s every day. Even at night, the temperatures don't cool down much. And the humidity is close to 100% all the time. I spent three weeks at WDW this past summer, including one in mid-August. I don't think I've ever sweat so much.

So you have to decide if you want high crowds and cool weather or low crowds and hot weather. There are pros and cons to both.
