Hello Moms (and Dads)! My family is coming in October with free dining. Can we use a gift card to leave a tip at the restaurants and the cover the cost of 2 meals that won't be included with the DDP? Thanks for your help.

    Deanna,

Yes, you can absolutely do this. I have used Disney gift cards (and AMEX ones too) many times to pay for meals.

Leaving a tip at a restaurant when you are paying for the meal with a Dining Plan credit might be a bit more difficult, but I think you can do it. After all, they are able to let you leave a gratuity billed to your room already. When you are seated, let your server know you are on the Dining Plan, as you would at any other meal. But also let them know that you need a separate receipt for leaving a gratuity. They should be able to oblige, but letting them know ahead of time will mean that they can get it all squared away well ahead of time. That way when you are done with your meal, you won't be held up while they figure it all out.

Finally, if they say that they can't have you leave the tip with the gift card, you can always bill the tip to the room, then apply some of your gift card to your room bill to cover it.

    I hope that this helps!

Have a magical (and delicious) vacation!
