Are there any cupcakes at the Downtown Bakery that are peanut and tree nut free? We will be traveling with our three grandchildren and one has a tree nut and peanut allergy. We are would love to visit the bakery but only if she can pick out a cupcake too

Hi, Lisa!  So, here's the thing, until recently, BabyCakes bakery in Downtown Disney had asserted they baked without the use of nuts.  Their gluten free flours are processed on equipment that packages hazelnut, almond flour, and soy, however, the equipment is power washed in between runs to help eliminate any cross contamination, and the first 30 pounds of gluten free flour is thrown away to help minimize the risk even further.

However, the Food and Drug Administration recently expanded the definition of tree nuts to include coconuts, and the bakery uses coconut oil in their baking.  As a result, their cupcakes are no longer considered nut free.  You may have personal experience with coconuts that may or may not be allergy safe for your granddaughter, so you will have to rely on that experience to determine whether or not the cupcakes would be a safe purchase.

I hope this information is helpful!
