Welcome aboard, Keisha! Congratulations on booking your very first sailing with Disney Cruise Line! Just wait until you walk onto the Disney Dream as the Cast Members announce your family name and applaud your arrival! What a magical way to begin your vacation, and believe me, that is only the very beginning of the fun that is in store!
Since you're sailing on the Disney Dream out of Port Canaveral to the Bahamas, a Passport or a Passport Card are both acceptable forms of identification, however you do have another option. If you do not have a valid U.S. Passport, a state-issued birth certificate along with a government-issued photo I.D. such as a driver's license, can be used instead. Please be sure to take a look at all of the details on Disney Cruise Line's
Bahamas Travel Documents Page, to ensure that you have the required information when you arrive at Port Canaveral.
Since you have plenty of time before you set sail, you may consider applying for a passport. My family and I always sail with our passports, as they offer an extra protection for us should we find ourselves in the unlikely event that we cannot get back on the ship in a foreign port, even the Bahamas, due to a medical emergency or even just missing the ship. It just makes it that much easier to return home, and I like the peace of mind that having a valid passport brings. So, think about it, but know that you do not need it in order to sail on the Dream.
Have fun over these next few months as you plan all the fun! Happy sailing, Keisha!
