Welcome aboard, Samantha! Your itinerary is such an exciting one! The sailing from New York to San Juan, Puerto Rico is sure to be a very magical adventure for you!
Disney Cruise Line guests won't need much
cash on the ship at all. Guests use their Key To The World Cards to pay for any extras onboard, which are then charged to your stateroom account. In fact, cash is not accepted at most spots onboard. There are a few things you will want to consider taking cash for though. If you'd like to order from the
complimentary room service menu, it's traditional to tip a few dollars in cash to the Cast Member who delivers your order to your stateroom. Additionally, guests traditionally tip their guides on
Port Adventures that are particularly enjoyable - which in my experience has been all of them! You may also want some cash for any souvenirs in the ports of call, though most locations will accept credit cards. Finally, if you use the helpful porters to assist with your luggage at the port terminals before or after the cruise, it is traditional to tip them a dollar or so per bag as well.
I'd suggest planning a budget and bringing some cash for those areas I mentioned, Samantha, but know that any other purchases onboard will go right to your stateroom account which will be settled with the credit card you put on file.
I hope those details help as you prep for your trip, Samantha. Happy sailing!
