Hello there, Sean! Welcome to planDisney. Transporting your precious cargo from
Black Spire Outpost back home is definitely a mission worthy of careful planning, so I’m really glad you reached out before setting coordinates for your return to the UK.
At this time, lightsabers purchased or built inside
Savi’s Workshop are not able to be shipped internationally directly from Walt Disney World locations. The good news is that Transportation Security Administration officers at Orlando International Airport are familiar with lightsabers, and most airlines allow them to be either carried on or checked with your luggage. Policies can vary by airline, so I strongly recommend checking directly with your carrier ahead of time to confirm whether your lightsaber can travel in the cabin or should be checked.
If you’d prefer to ship your lightsaber home rather than travel with it, you do have a couple of options. There is a
Guest Shipping location at
Disney Springs, located between
Once Upon a Toy and
Tren-D, where Cast Members can often assist with domestic shipping and may help point you toward next steps for international delivery. Additionally, nearby shipping providers such as UPS or FedEx around the Orlando area can quote international shipping rates based on the package size, weight, and destination. Costs will vary depending on the service level you choose, so stopping by in person usually provides the most accurate estimate.
One helpful strategy that many builders use is packing the lightsaber in pieces. After your build at Savi’s Workshop, the blade and hilt can be separated, making the saber much easier to store in a suitcase. The blade measures approximately 31 inches long, while the hilt length depends on the components selected during the customization process (including sleeves, emitters, pommel caps, and activation plates). Most completed hilts fall between 10 and 13 inches. As a fellow lightsaber builder, I can share that once fully disassembled and placed in the included carrying case, the entire package measures around 50 inches. Knowing these dimensions ahead of time can be incredibly helpful when deciding whether to pack, carry on, or ship your saber home.
If your family is planning to continue collecting galactic treasures during your visit, I highly recommend a stop at
Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities. This legendary Ithorian’s shop is overflowing with rare artifacts from across the galaxy, many with stories so impressive even the cantina regulars might pause mid-sip. You’ll often find a rotating selection of legacy lightsabers once wielded by iconic Star Wars figures, and you just might discover a piece that adds a little extra refinement to your growing collection.
I hope this helps you feel prepared and confident as you plan your return journey from Black Spire Outpost, Sean. If any other questions come up, feel free to send a transmission to me or one of my fellow planDisney panelists. We’re always happy to help guide you along the way.
May the Force be with you…always.
