We are considering a DVC purchase. My question is they have some great incentives for AK, however, I like the location of some of the other resorts better, BW, Bay Lake; is it difficult to get in at a non-home resort if your not going during peak times?

Hi, Nicole!  We have been Disney Vacation Club owners for several years, and currently have three contracts.  We have points at Saratoga Springs, Animal Kingdom, and Bay Lake Towers, and I can tell you the reason we have so many contracts is, of course, because we love DVC; but also because we have had some difficulty in booking vacations outside of our home resorts with our points at the seven month window - even in a non-peak time.

The funny thing about DVC is that the regular "peak" times there are not the only "peak" times for DVC.  You are always going to have a better chance at accommodations if you book at the 11 month window at your home resort for things like Christmas week, Thanksgiving weekend, and spring break.  What I didn't realize when we purchased is that getting a room during Food and Wine Festival can be really difficult.  Also, when the DVC points are lowest, it seems that DVC accommodations can get quite full.

That said, if you are willing to be somewhat flexible, you can generally find SOMETHING.  You might have to move from one resort to another during your stay, or you might have to opt for a one bedroom instead of a studio room.  We always book whatever we can get and wait list for what we want, and we've been pretty lucky with that.

I say buy where you want your home resort to be.  The benefits can be really enticing, but I'm glad to have home resort advantage at Bay Lake Towers and Animal Kingdom Villas.  We've enjoyed some very nice stays at both locations, thanks to the booking window advantage.

    Good luck in choosing!
