I have considered a solo trip for sometime later this year. I am looking at the moderate resort category. Is there one that would be more suited for a solo traveler? Do you feel that the resorts are safe for solo travelers?

    Hi Debra!

I just got back from my annual solo trip to WDW yesterday. One of the reasons I choose to go to Disney for my alone time is the safety factor. Disney takes the security of its guests extremely seriously and I feel quite comfortable there alone. That being said, I will say that I prefer to stay at the deluxe resorts when traveling on my own. There's something about the door to the room opening into the hotel (vs. the moderate hotels in which the room doors open out to the world) that makes me feel safer. If I were traveling alone at a moderate hotel, I would ask them to put you in a building that is fairly close to the main lobby area, just so you're doing less walking out by yourself at night. I don't think any of the moderates is better or worse for the solo traveler. I prefer the themeing at Port Orleans to the others, so that would be my choice.

On my solo trip, I had a great time sleeping in, reading, shopping, touring the parks at my own pace, etc. I also never felt lonely because there were so many interesting cast members to talk to when I felt like I needed conversation. For example, a lovely young woman CM at the Japan pavilion at Epcot spent a great deal of time describing the ritual of the Japanese tea service to me. I learned a great deal from her. I also took the Backstage Magic tour during my most recent solo trip. In my group of 20, 3 of us were solo travelers, so we kept each other company on the tour. From my point of view, I'd say that Disney is the perfect place for solo travel.
