I am so confused about lightening lane and multi lane passes. Do I have to get passes for everyone or just one person in the group (2 adults, 3 kids-aged 7,4,2). The tiers are stressful. Is there a way to skip lines without juggling tiers and stress?

    Hi Emily!

Welcome to planDisney! I’m happy to help talk through Lightning Lane Multi Pass! I promise that it’s one of those things that sounds a little more overwhelming than it actually is once you start clicking through it all. But I also know that it helps to have a heads up on what to expect!

First things first, everyone who will be using Lightning Lanes in your group will need to have a Lightning Lane pass…with one exception! Guests under 3 will not need a Lightning Lane pass. They’ll be able to enter the Lightning Lane with the rest of your family, as long as everyone else has a Lightning Lane. So, you will only need to purchase Lightning Lane services for the two adults, the 7-year-old, and the 4-year-old.

When your Lightning Lane booking window opens, you will choose your park day and the type of pass you’d like to purchase, then you’ll confirm who you will be purchasing the pass for. Make sure to select everyone in your group other than your 2-year-old.

Next up, tiers! When choosing your Lightning Lane pre-selections for Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, or Epcot, you will be able to choose one tier 1 attraction and two tier 2 attractions -or- three tier 2 attractions. Animal Kingdom currently does not have tiers.

Those tiers will only matter during pre-selections. After you scan into your first Lightning Lane of the day, you will be able to book any other available Lightning Lane, no matter the tier!

Throughout your park day, every single time you scan into a Lightning Lane, you’ll be able to hop onto your My Disney Experience app and book another one (pending availability). So, I always like to aim for the earliest time possible when choosing my Lightning Lane pre-selections. That way, I can open up the ability to book another one earlier on during my park day.

Of course, if you don’t want to juggle booking Lightning Lanes and worrying about getting to an attraction within the return time, you can always consider purchasing Lightning Lane Premier Pass (pending availability). While this service is definitely pricier, I have to admit that when I used it, it was the most laid-back park day I’ve ever had! With that service, you’re able to access each available Lightning Lane in the park one time. And when you’re ready to enjoy the attraction, you just go to the Lightning Lane and scan in. No need to book any return times!

I hope that helps! If you have any follow-up questions, feel free to reach back out. We’re always happy to help and want to ensure that you and your family have the best trip!
