I am concerned about staying in a balcony room at the contemporary. Are the locks on the doors high enough that a 4 and 5 year old cannot get to them? At first I thought seeing the fireworks would be grand, now worrying about balcony safety. Please help!

    Hi Susan,

I loved staying at the Bay Lake Tower at the Contemporary Resort at the Walt Disney World Resorts. This is a great location to get quickly to the Magic Kingdom or hop on the monorail to head to Epcot.

In general, the locks to the balcony doors are about at the half way point on the door. I would think it would be about eye level for most four or five year old. This being said I know I have difficulty opening these doors. While I do not think twisting the lock is particularly easy, the doors are heavy which I think most children would have trouble with pushing them back.

The doors are covered by sheers and heavy drapes so you can conceal the doors if you feel more comfortable. I personally would not worry about the doors and Disney would recognize that guests would want their children as well as themselves to feel safe.

If you would like additional information, I would reach out to the Contemporary Resort and speak to a cast member. They may be able to recommend an additional safety measure to make you feel comfortable. You can call them at 1-407-934-7639.

    Wishing you a magical vacation!
