    We are coming for a visit for the week of Halloween. We are so excited but we don't want to go to MNSSHP because my daughter will only be 17 months old and it will just be too late for her. Will D.D. have anything going on the actual day of Halloween?

    Hi, Alyssa! Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question about Halloween happenings around Walt Disney World Resort. As much as I love attending Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, I think you've made the right call waiting until your little princess is a bit older before having her experience the Halloween Party. Even with a long afternoon nap, most toddlers and younger kids are just incapable of making it to midnight.  

    In the past, Downtown Disney has played host to the "Happy Haunting" event which featured family-themed entertainment and activities from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM on both October 30 and 31. Trick-or-treaters could follow a specially marked "treat trail" to collect candy and goodies at more than 20 participating shops and restaurants. The "streetmosphere" entertainment included storytellers, a magician, stilt walkers and a kids' DJ dance party. Unfortunately, Happy Haunting was discontinued in 2011, mainly due to the fact that it became too popular (read: crowded) and Disney felt that this event was no longer providing a very magical guest experience. 

    I wish I had better news for you, Alyssa! However, I understand that there will still be a festive atmosphere this year in Downtown Disney with seasonal decorations such as spooky (not-so-scary) jack-o-lanterns, cornstalks and hay bales. 

    If you're looking for an alternative to Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, you may want to head over to Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground for some Halloween-themed fun. If you decide to visit this resort anytime during the week of Halloween, be sure to check out all the amazing decorations that campers set up at their campsites. On October 31 you can view a very special parade of decorated golf carts which typically starts at 5:00 PM.
