Coming for 1st trip with husband and 2 boys 5 & 6 on 9/28-10/5. Having a hard time deciding on a hotel. I was thinking POR Royal rooms but are these too girly for two boys? Are these close to food at POR? Is the waterslide dark or is it open & h

Hi, Joanna!  I don't think the Royal Rooms at Port Orleans Riverside are girly at all.  Instead of being all pink and lacy and sprinkled with glitter, the rooms have more of a real castle feel.  If you imagine staying in a room at Buckingham Palace, they might look like this, with richer fabrics, larger pieces of furnture, deep blues and royal gold colors.  The coolest thing is the headboards on the beds, which will light up the night with a fireworks display that takes place just above your head as you drift off to sleep (or in the case of my kids, at your feet, because they flip their pillows to the ends of the bed to see the show!).

I will add that these are not your closest option to the food court or main lobby.  It's a good ten minute walk with little ones, as these rooms are some of the furthest.  The resort isn't very big, and a grown up could do the walk in about five minutes, but tired little legs can make it seem like quite a haul.

The water slide at the resort is open, so it's not dark at all.  I love that, especially with younger kids!  Part of the big obstacle to one of my daughters' enjoying water slides was her fear of being stuck in a tube.  No worries here!

I hope your upcoming stay is all the magical things you can think of rolled into one amazing vacation!
