I am coming for the runDisney half marathon weekend. I usually take photos with my medals in front of the castle, but I didn't buy a park ticket my last day since I'm flying out a few hours later. Where would you recommend I take medal photos?

Hey there, Janet, and welcome back to planDisney!

It's a pleasure to help you and thanks for stopping by again! I love the question you "posed" because I'm a photographer and had a lot of fun thinking about various places I would recommend for your medal photo. I'm really excited for you! I tried coming up with iconic locations at the Disneyland Resort where you could grab a well-earned medal picture that didn't require Park admission. Here are my suggestions in order of my personal favorites:

    1. The Disneyland Resort Esplanade. Facing the Disneyland Park entrance, you can get a great photo of the Main Street Railroad Station and the floral Mickey. Right in the center, there's a double gate in the fence that's sometimes open and I would recommend standing right there. Bonus points if you can catch the Monorail (you'd have to take the pic from further away) and/or the Disneyland Railroad going by!
    2. Out on the Harbor Blvd. entrance, there is a "Disneyland Resort" arch that would make an iconic photo if you stood under it with your medals. It's very crowded out there, however.
    3. The Disneyland Hotel. A couple of notable areas include the Sorcerer Hat (near the entrance to Downtown Disney District) and the entrance to the hotel in the Fantasy Tower. There's a wonderful Disneyland mural on the wall and a picture-worthy carpet that welcomes you to the hotel.
    4. These are a little more esoteric but I had fun thinking of them. There are several neat locations in Downtown Disney that you could visit. If you're doing the 5K, your Marvel themed medal might go well with the newly opened Avengers Reserve Shop! There's a life-size figure of The Incredible Hulk by the entrance "running" through a wall. I've heard that a line even forms to get a pic with him sometimes! Right next door, the D-Lander Shop (also recently opened) has a person sized Disney "D" that you can stand nearby for a pic. Finally, for that 10K Star Wars medal, taking a photo outside the Star Wars Trading Post might complement that nicely!

Congrats and best wishes on your Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend races! I wish you the best and I hope you're having fun planning your trip! I see that my good friend Amanda already told you that the Lunar New Year Celebration will be taking place over your visit! It's the Year of the Snake, so be thinking of your favorite Disssssney ssssnakessss! And if you need anything else, feel free to write back because you're always welcome and we'd love to hear from you again! Until next time!

Wishing You a Great, Big, Beautiful Tomorrow!

Meet the Panelist: Al, California

Ahoy there from the heart of Steinbeck Country in central California! I've been visiting the Disneyland Resort since childhood and fell in love with the sense of absolute immersion that the Imagineers have achieved. My favorite attraction is Pirates of the Caribbean because where else can you go from a California day to an evening boat ride in the bayou with "salty old pirates"? I'm a veterinarian and an all-around Disney geek and enthusiast. I'd love to help you plan your next Disneyland trip! Learn More About Al
