Justin,
This is a great question! The resorts can be large, and when you have some little ones in tow it can be a pretty long haul to get from Point A to Point B.
As it happens, I stay at
Disney's Pop Century Resort often, so I think I can help.
To begin, because you opted to reserve a preferred room you are already going to be close to both the Classic Hall, as well as the
Disney Skyliner station. The Classic Hall, if you did not recognize the name, is the main lobby building for the resort, including the front desk, the food court, the gift store, and the bus station. With a preferred room you are likely in the 50s, 60s, or 70s section of the resort.
Next, when you complete your
Online Check-In to the resort you will get some room request options. These are not guaranteed to be met, but Disney tries to accommodate these requests whenever possible. The options can change, but I just checked for you today, and they include requesting a room on the ground floor, a room with a king bed, or a room in the 50s or 70s sections. You can make two requests. I always start with a ground floor request, but you will know your own preferences, and can select accordingly.
Finally, if you arrive and you would like to explore other room options, definitely feel free to visit the lobby and ask a cast member for help. If there is a room available that might better match your preferences, they can help change the selection on your behalf. It never hurts to ask!
BONUS TIPIf you have a room in the 60s section that immediately faces the main feature pool, you could have some residual noise in the afternoon that can impede nap time. While those are the most centrally located rooms, the downside of interrupted naps may outweigh the benefit of shorter walk times.
Have a Magical Vacation!
