We are coming to MK for first time June 2010, with our 3 kids and grandparents. Wondering about groceries. Staying either cabins or POR. Can we get groceries on resort or will we have to take a cab somewhere? Rather not eat out every meal to save $.

There are no real grocery store on WDW property or walkable from anywhere on site. If you wanted visit an actual grocery store, you would need a cab. However, I do have some alternatives for you:

There are is a limited selection of groceries available for sale right in the gift shop at Fort Wilderness (this is true at all the Disney Vacation Club resorts with villas). You won't find lots of choices - think pared down convenience store - but you will be able to purchase some of the basics: milk, juice, boxed cereal, a loaf of bread, dry pasta and sauce, frozen pizza, lunch meats, etc. I often stay at the villa resorts and find the offering at the WDW shops perfectly adequate to assemble a basic breakfast or lunch.

If you want more selection or more dinner-like food (meat, veggies), there are many services that will deliver groceries to the WDW resorts. One popular service is gardengrocer.com. You can check their website for more information. Although it may seem like you're paying a premium for delivery, if you factor in the cost of what a cab would cost, you're usually coming out ahead with the delivery.

Bear in mind that while the FW cabins do have a full kitchen, Port Orleans has only a dorm-sized refrigerator and no cooking equipment. If cooking is a priority for you, then the cabins are probably a better choice.

    Have a great trip!
