We are coming down in June and since I've been on a "lifestyle change (diet)", would it be possible for me to order off the children's menu so I can keep myself in check? Are  the restaurants generally not too particular about this?

Hi, Kathy!  I had gastric bypass surgery four years ago, and worried like crazy over meals!  The restaurants were very accommodating in terms of allowing me to order when I could off of the children's menu.

The problem with some of the children's menus is that they are geared towards children's palates, which don't necessarily jive with a healthy diet.  Be prepared to find things like burgers, mac and cheese, pizza, and other kid friendly foods.

Another alternative might be to browse the appetizer menu.  This was a lifesaver for me on many trips.  I was able to order something like seared scallops or a delicious soup to help me keep on track, maintain portion control, and still eat foods that were better for me than macaroni and cheese.

Good luck with your lifestyle change, and have a wonderful vacation!
