Hi there, Deborah,
Welcome to planDisney! I'm so glad you sailed by with your question. My husband and I are embarking on a Disney Cruise Line vacation soon and he needs to make a video-conferencing call during our trip, so I've done a little research and am glad to share what I learned with you!
Once you board the ship, open the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app and select "Connect to Internet," which will navigate to a new browser window where you can view internet plans and purchase internet access. On my last Disney Cruise Line voyage, the following packages were offered (prices and plans are subject to change):
• The Stay Connected package lets you keep up with your social media, including posting photos. Currently, this package is $18 per day for one day or $16 per day if purchased for your entire voyage.
• The Basic Surf package has the additional benefit of checking email, internet access, and voice calls. Currently, this package is $28 per day for one day or $24 per day if purchased for your entire voyage.
• The Premium Surf package, which you will need for your video call, offers all of the above with faster connection speeds, streaming for short videos and music, plus video calling. Please note that you cannot stream from services such as Netflix and Hulu. Currently, this package is $42 per day for one day or $34 per day if purchased for your entire voyage.
Each package is priced per device, not per room. Instead of purchasing a package for multiple devices, I was able to sign out of one device and sign in to another device using the same plan. I found this a bit tricky to navigate, but you can stop by the Guest Services Desk (Deck 4, Midship) if you have any issues.
If you would like to keep in touch with friends and family back home using iMessage on your iPhone or WhatsApp on other mobile devices, you can do so using the onboard WiFi network at no cost. This is a great way to let your friends and family know how much fun you are having! Be sure to follow the instructions provided in the Navigator app to avoid cell phone network charges. Again, ask a Guest Services Crew Member if you need assistance.
I hope this information keeps you connected during your vacation, Deborah. Sail by any time with other questions!
Wishing you many magical moments,
Shannon
