Hello, Jonathan, welcome to planDisney!
Walt Disney World currently has two attractions utilizing the
Virtual Queue, TRON Lightcycle / Run at Magic Kingdom and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT, both of which have quickly become favorites of mine, and my wild middle child!
To answer your question, let me start by covering some of the basics to ensure you get the highly coveted boarding groups to either attraction.
If you purchased a date-based theme park ticket, park reservations are no longer required, so you will be able to join a virtual queue at 7:00 AM for either
TRON Lightcycle / Run or
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind without being inside the theme park. You can only hold one virtual queue at a time, so choose wisely! If aren’t successful in the morning, you have a second opportunity to join the virtual queue at 1:00 PM but for this, you will need to be tapped into the
Magic Kingdom or
EPCOT to make your request.
Joining the virtual queue can be done through your
My Disney Experience app, so make sure you have your party loaded into your
Friends & Family List and everyone’s tickets are linked ahead of time. On the day of your visit, open your app, hit the three-line menu icon on the bottom right, select Virtual Queues, and then enroll everyone in the virtual queue at the same time if the queue is still available. If you are successful, you will be given a boarding group number. If your boarding group number is called to return, you will be notified through the My Disney Experience app. Simply return to the attraction entrance during your return window and enjoy!
Joining a virtual queue at 7:00 AM does not guarantee that your boarding group will be called in the morning, or that your boarding group will be called at all. Sometimes attractions can experience issues that may result in the attraction being temporarily closed. If and when the attraction begins operating again, the boarding groups will resume being called but it would likely impact when your group will be called. For example, if you receive a low number boarding group, such as boarding group 5, you could expect your boarding group window to be earlier in the day compared to boarding group 100 which may be later in the evening.
I hope this information helps you with your planning for your upcoming visit, Jonathan! Please feel
