My child is going to Walt Disney World with her school group. I would like to give her my credit card to purchase meals. Would she have to present an ID to use the credit card? Can she use the credit card without me being there?

    Hi Jason,

Sending your child to Disney World with your credit card is brave indeed! I have raised a few shoppers so this would be a little concerning in my house. I share a deep level of trust with my kids like you do so I have sent them out into the theme parks with my credit card before. They have never been asked for an ID or questioned about it but this will be up to whoever is running the register where they are checking out. I do always worry about them misplacing my credit card or leaving it behind so luckily there are a few other options.

You can set up a My Disney Experience account for your child that is linked to your own and give them access to either pay through the app with their phone or with a MagicBand+. You will need to upload and save a credit card on file to your My Disney Experience app. You will also be prompted to create a pin that your child will also utilize for their account whenever they make a purchase. The beauty of this option is that there is no physical credit card needed.

I also love utilizing payments through the My Disney Experience appt because it also makes Mobile Food and Beverage Ordering super simple. Utilizing the same app, your child can order and pay for their meals then head straight up to the counter to pick them up when they are ready. This saves a lot of time waiting in lines for food!

Another great option is to send them with Disney Gift Cards. This is a great way for them to learn a little bit of budgeting skills but you can also reload money onto their gift card if they start running low. The only problem with this is that if they lose the gift card you won't be able to recover the value because it is essentially cash. You do have the option to purchase digital gift cards that they could utilize on their phone and won't have to worry about losing.

    Happy Planning
