My child has a Magic Band that his father bought & linked when they were in Disney World. Now I am taking him to Disneyland but his magic band says it is already claimed. How can a child share their Magic Band between 2 parents’ accounts? Thank you!

    Hiya, Heidi,

My family and I have also been able to use our MagicBand+ at both the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and the Disneyland Resort in California. There have occasionally been speed bumps along the way when switching between coasts. But we’ve usually found our way over them and on to a “world of yesterday, tomorrow and fantasy.”

Once a MagicBand or MagicBand+ is linked to a Guest’s Walt Disney World Resort profile, it will be permanently associated with that profile for use at the Walt Disney World Resort and can’t be transferred to another Walt Disney World Resort profile.

Things work a little differently for MagicBand+ at the Disneyland Resort. First of all, only MagicBand+ are supported at the Disneyland Resort. Another difference at the Disneyland Resort is that MagicBand+ are only linked to a Disneyland Resort, not to a specific Guest profile. And, while a MagicBand+ may only be linked to up to one Disneyland Resort account at a time, they can be unlinked from one account and then linked to a different account.

Here are the steps to unlink a MagicBand+ from one account and link it to a different Disneyland Resort account:

    1. Open the MagicBand+ screen from the ☰ feature menu of the Disneyland mobile app while logged in to the account with the band currently linked.
    2. Tap the image or title of the band you wish to unlink. Make sure to select the MagicBand+ and not the ticket or pass assigned to it.
    3. At the bottom of the band’s configuration page, tap “Unlink.”
    4. On the device of the other account holder where you wish to link the band, open the MagicBand+ screen in the Disneyland app.
    5. Tap the ‘+’ button at the top of the screen.
    6. Tap “Open Scanner to Link.” Or use the “Type ID” method to manually enter the band ID printed underneath the MagicBand+.
    7. Follow the instructions on the screen to link the band and confirm by tapping “Link to Account.”
    8. Finalize the setup by assigning an available ticket or pass to the MagicBand+.
    9. Optional, but Recommended: Pair the band with the mobile device. This step will require that the band is charged enough to allow Bluetooth connectivity.

Based on what you have described, I’m hopeful that these unlink/link steps will get you set up the way you’d like. If you still have difficulty linking your child’s band to your account, I have a few more recommendations you might try. The reset or factory reset step is usually one of the more helpful steps when I switch between Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort. Another great resource is the knowledgeable Cast Members stationed at the several Guest Relations locations throughout the theme parks.

I hope you and your child have a most magical time at the Disneyland Resort, Heidi!
