What are the advantages/disadvantages for checking in online? Does it give us a better chance of getting our room requests?

The Disney online check-in procedure is a brand new feature just recently introduced to guests. I have not had the opportunity to try this out yet but am looking forward to using it on my upcoming trip in a couple of weeks. The biggest advantage with this system will be the reduction of time it takes guests to check in. This procedure will help streamline the steps a guest must go thru when arriving at the resort and will get you on your way to the WDW magic even faster.

The procedure allows you to provide billing information, like which credit card to use for room charges, and verify guest information up to ten days before your arrival. The online check in will also ask for information regarding your expected arrival time. This will help the resort be prepared for your party. Once you arrive at the resort, you will proceed to a separate line reserved for online check in guests, were you will pick up your keys and resort packets.

With the online check in, you will have the opportunity to input room requests but there is no guarantee that all of those requests will be able to be filled. Often rooms must be assigned by needs like adjoining rooms for parties with small children. The resorts will continue to fill as many requests as possible, however utilizing online check in will not guarantee you with a greater chance of a specific room.

I think guests will find the convenience of having everything ready for them upon their arrival and added bonus to Disney's fantastic customer service.
