we are checking in to the beach club resort on a friday and having the polynesian (ohana?) dinner that night. do we need to use one of our park passes that night to have dinner? we will be at disney for 5 days but only bought 3 days of passes.

There is no theme park admission ticket required to dine at any of the WDW resort hotels. If you are using Disney transportation to get to your meal, you should take the bus from the Beach Club to the Magic Kingdom. From there, you should transfer to the monorail, which will take you to the Polynesian. Your transfer at the MK will take place just outside the park in the transportation area. Since you are not entering the Magic Kingdom, you won't need a ticket.

Enjoy your visit to Walt Disney World!
