Welcome aboard, Sheila! Could it be any colder in Ohio right now? This polar vortex has me bundled up and anxiously awaiting our next Disney Cruise Line vacation where I can set sail and enjoy the warmth of the Caribbean!
It is really exciting to begin planning your very first sailing with Disney, isn't it? The best way to begin is to visit the
Find A Cruise page of Disney Cruise Line's website. There you can play around with dates and itineraries to find the perfect cruise that fits your family wants and budget. I don't know if there's an actual sailing or time that is the least expensive, since it varies based on itinerary, ship, stateroom category, and of course time of year. I will say, however, that my family has found it less expensive to sail when schools are in session, versus over typical holidays and summer time. So, if you have the availability to set sail in the fall and winter, you may find less expensive options. Of course, shorter cruises tend to cost less than long ones, and certain itineraries are less expensive. Also check out the
Special Rates and Offers to see if one applies to your family.
At times, you may see a stateroom offered as GTY, or guarantee. This rate is offered as the sailing gets closer and rooms are still available. Guests booking a stateroom in a certain category with a GTY will pay that lower price, but don't get to choose the exact stateroom. However, you'll be guaranteed a stateroom in that category or better. My family and I have taken advantage of this a few times, and even found we were bumped up to a higher category stateroom without paying more. That's a great way to save money if you have the flexibility of not planning super far ahead.
Have fun exploring all the options, Sheila!
