Hi! Do you have to charge your purchases to your room on a Disney Cruise or can you pay cash as you go? Can you use giftcards for purchases? What is the policy on Castaway Cay? Thanks!

    Ahoy Shawn!
I am so glad you are back with more great questions about your upcoming sailing!  When you complete your online check-in, you will be asked to link a credit card to your shipboard account.  You can choose this option, or there is a way to set-up a cash account too.  If you are sailing on a two to five night sailing up to $300 can be charged before charges must be paid off ($500 for five nights or more) at Guest Services.  Regardless of the method that works best for your family, all purchases onboard and Castaway Cay will be placed on your Key to the World card.  If you decide to link a credit card to your account, your charges will not appear on your credit card until after your sailing.  So, if you want to apply cash or Disney Gift Cards to your account you can do so at any time during your cruise vacation by stopping by Guest Services on Deck Three.  You can also stop by to check your balance or receive an itemized print out of charges that are linked to your stateroom.  The lines are sometimes long on the last night and on the morning of departure so be sure to plan accordingly.
I usually budget at least one Disney Gift Card every time I visit the store for my weekly groceries.  By the time we are ready to set sail we have quite a few to apply to our shipboard account.  I also give them to my kids as presents for holidays and birthdays and ask the grandparents to do so as well.  This helps when they want to pick out some fun souvenirs at the shops onboard or at Castaway Cay!
I hope my answer helps you understand better how Disney Cruise Line operates on a cash-free basis.  If you need any other questions answered, please let me know!  I'd love to help again!
    Have a magical day!
