What characters don't/ can't give autographs? I know that some can't due to costumes & would like to know in advance so that I curb my DS's disappointment when they can't. Also are any of the UP characters in the parks yet? Thanks for your help!

This is an interesting question -- and one that was much more difficult to research that I would have thought.

For guests that don't know, all the Disney characters that are out and about in the parks are happy to pose for photos. Most of the characters will also sign autographs. However, there are a very few characters who can't sign autographs because their hands are not dexterous enough, or because they don't happen to have hands. Off the top of my head, I knew for sure that Lightening McQueen and Mater from the movie Cars and King Louie from the Jungle Book are characters that can't sign autographs and are frequently found in the parks.

I went online to check what i was missing and found wildly divergent information. There is no official list of such things, so it's all up to guests to report their experiences.

    Here's what I found:

    King Louie: can't sign
Lightening McQueen and Mater: can't sign
Sully and Mike Wazowski from Monsters Inc: can't sign
R2D2: cant' sign, Might only be found on a Star Wars weekend
Buzz Lightyear and Woody: might sign or might "sign" with a stamper
Bullseye (Woody's horse): can't sing. Unlikely to find in the parks.
Beast: might sign, or might have Belle sign for him
The Incredibles: might sign or might "sign" with a stamper
Miss Piggy and Kermit: might sign or might "sign" with a stamper. Unlikely to find in the parks.

There maybe a few more rare characters out there who can't sign, but this should give you a good start.

And YES, there are Up characters available to meet. Carl Fredrickson, Russell, and Dug have a meeting spot inside the Magic of Animation Building at Disney's Hollywood Studios. This greeting area changes characters based on the current animated movie in the Disney/Pixar lineup. The Up characters began appearing in mid-May 2009. My guess is that they'll be there throughout the summer.
