Is there a certain time that characters go on rides? I've seen videos for example, of Alice and the Mad Hatter on the tea cups, or Mickey on the Dumbo ride. Do they go on the rides everyday or do the characters just randomly come onto the rides?

When my oldest daughter was three years old, we were standing at the Castle in the Magic Kingdom waiting for them to drop the rope into Fantasyland. All of a sudden Minnie Mouse came up and took her hand. She pointed to Dumbo and looked to us for acknowledgement that it was OK to take her on the ride. We, of course, agreed. So she got to ride on Dumbo with Minnie by her side and then Minnie walked her into Toontown, a PhotoPass photographer took their picture together, and then gave us a certificate for a free print. This was obviously a priceless memory and I can assure you that it was totally random and unexpected. This happened looong before my Moms Panel days (my daughter is nearly 12 now) and I didn't even know that such a thing was possible. As I think about it now, this was probably the single event that precipitated our family's dedication to Disney. I guess I have Minnie Mouse to thank for all those subsequent visits and thus for my WDW knowledge. Thanks Minnie :-)

There is no way to anticipate magical character encounters such as the one we had. You just have to be in the right place at the right time ... and there's no way to know what that right place or time might be.

The only special character experience such as this that I have ever seen any pattern to is that with some regularity Goofy does come into Toontown near opening time and ride on the Barnstormer with a child. This is not every day, and not always at the same time. My advice would be to just go to the parks and have a great time and let the magic happen.

    Good luck!
