Ahoy, Michelle!
Welcome aboard planDisney! With your Disney cruise just days away, I bet you’re counting down the minutes until you hear those magical words—“Welcome aboard!” One of the best parts of a Disney cruise vacation is the chance to truly unplug and enjoy the magic at sea… but I totally understand that sometimes real life still calls, and staying connected becomes part of the voyage.
Let’s dive into your options for staying in touch while you’re out making memories on the high seas!
I’ll start with what I consider the Ursula of internet choices—
Cellular at Sea. This option allows you to use your mobile service while onboard, but to do that, you’ll need to reach out to your cellular provider before your cruise to see if they offer a cruise plan. Some carriers do offer cruise-specific passes. That said, the rates vary, and in my experience, these plans can be pricey, limited in data, and not exactly fast—kind of like swimming against the current. But if you're in a pinch or just need light usage, it can be a lifeline.
Now, let’s flip our fins over to the more magical option—
Disney’s onboard Wi-Fi packages. As someone who’s tested these out firsthand, I can say the current packages are a huge improvement over the old system (Sebastian would call it “simply spectacular!”).
Once you’re on the ship and connected to the complimentary Wi-Fi, just open your
Disney Cruise Line Navigator app and tap on the
“Connect to Internet” card. You’ll find two packages available:
• Internet Package – Perfect for general web browsing, checking email, messaging, and light social media scrolling.
• Internet + Streaming Package – Your go-to if you want to FaceTime with family, stream Disney+ (because what’s a sea day without a Marvel movie marathon?), or upload your favorite cruise selfies in real time.
As of now, the Internet Package runs about $26 per day, and the Streaming Package is $42 per day. But here’s a tip: if you purchase either one for the full length of your voyage within the first 24 hours, you can net a discount of up to 20%—now that’s what I call a swell deal!
One thing to keep in mind: while the Wi-Fi is great, you’re still sailing the open seas, so just like Captain Hook chasing Peter Pan, connection speeds may fluctuate—especially when many Guests are online at the same time.
Michelle, I hope this helps you navigate the best option for your cruise. Whether you're streaming Moana while sailing the ocean blue or just checking in on things back home, you'll have everything you need at your fingertips.
Sea ya real soon as May brings sunshine, magical ports, and maybe a Mickey bar or two,
Dustin
