Holly, welcome aboard! I love the fun Port Adventure options in Cozumel, and I'm so glad you mentioned the ruins, as I have a great suggestion for your young family!
We had such a wonderful experience on the
Cozumel Ruins and Beach Tour. I was pleasantly surprised on our tour to find that due to the location of the ruins and the beach club on opposite parts of the island, we actually drove the coast of the whole island so we were able to learn a lot from the tour guide on our motorcoach about each area on the island as well as the different types of beaches on the opposite sides, plus lots of history and culture along the way.
The ruins were really interesting. Even my son who was four when we experienced this adventure, thought the ruins were amazing. You and your husband will learn a lot about the Mayan civilization while you tour with a tour guide, but you'll also have free time to explore a bit more on your own. Be sure to bring water, as even thought it'll be January, as it was when we visited too, it is very hot at the ruins.
Once we hopped back on the air conditioned bus, (whew!), we all were happy to know that our next stop would be at the Playa Mia Beach Club where we could relax with a fruity drink and cool off in the ocean. I think with a family, this adventure is perfect, because the adults can enjoy the history and culture of the San Gervasio ruins, but the whole family can later relax and play at the beach to wrap up the day.
Young children on this adventure will sit in their parent's lap on the motorcoach. We have always felt safe and comfortable with our kids on these motorcoaches, as I too, would not allow my kids in a taxi without a car seat.
I hope that helps as you plan, Holly! Happy birthday to your husband!
