Hi moms! The 5K at Castaway Cay minimum age is 10 to register, correct? Rather than leave our 8yr old at Scuttles Cove, is he able to walk with us (we understand that he wouldn’t get a medal at the end etc.)? Any other info or tips for the 5K? Thanks!!

Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel Elisabeth!

I am so excited to see you will be cruising with Captain Mickey again soon.  It looks like you have been on a lot of great cruises around the world with Disney Cruise Line and we share the love of seeking out new adventures for our family!  Out of all the ports my crew has wanted to be marooned on, Castaway Cay is IT.

The 5K is a great way to start out your Castaway Cay day!  Be sure to check your Navigator or visit with Guest Services (Deck 3, Midship) for details on how to register and where to meet up on the morning of the race to ensure you are at the start line in time.  The minimum age to register for this free event is ten years old.  Your eight year old is welcome to enjoy some time with the Disney Counselors at Scuttle's Cove or walk with you as your cheering squad to the finish line (but cannot officially participate in the race).

The average temperature on Castaway Cay in March is around twenty six degrees Celsius.  Although the weather is a bit more mild and less humid this time of year, my best tip I can give you is to stay hydrated!  Water is provided during a common stop along the route, however I recommend you carry a lightweight water bottle with you that is filled up before the race.  Being from the north myself, I know the change to the warm, sticky climate of Castaway Cay can sometimes make me extra thirsty.  Some runners will head back to the ship after the race to change and shower, which can take time away from your visit to paradise.  Bring a small bag (with your water bottle!) and your swim suit so you can cool off after the race in the beautiful blue waters surrounding the island - no shower can beat that feeling!

Good luck during the race Elisabeth and happy sailing!  Angie
