Hi Sue!
Welcome to planDisney! First off, I’m so sorry to hear that your Disneyland Resort plans might need to shift. I completely understand how disappointing that can be. Sometimes life throws a few unexpected plot twists into our Disney adventures, but I’m happy to help you navigate your options so you can make the best decision for your plans, whether that means rescheduling or cancelling altogether.
Let’s start with your
Disneyland Resort theme park tickets. While theme park tickets are non-refundable, the good news is that Disneyland Resort tickets are typically valid 16 months from the date of purchase. If you need to check the exact expiration date for your ticket, you can find that in the original confirmation email you received when you made your purchase. You can also easily check it right from your smartphone by opening the Disneyland app. Just tap the ☰ (hamburger) menu icon in the lower right corner, then select the Tickets and Passes tile. Even if you’re unable to use the tickets right now, knowing you still have over a year to plan another visit means there’s still plenty of time to create magical memories at The Happiest Place on Earth.
If your reservation was for a
Disneyland Resort Hotel Room Only stay, there’s a bit more flexibility. When you booked your reservation, you would have paid a deposit equal to the first night’s room rate plus taxes and fees. As long as you cancel at least 4 days prior to your scheduled arrival date, you’ll receive a full refund of that deposit. If you cancel within the 4-day window, however, the deposit will be forfeited as a cancellation fee. One helpful option to consider is rescheduling your reservation instead of cancelling. This allows you to keep your deposit in place, though you would need to pay any difference in room rates if your new dates have different pricing.
Now, if you booked a
Disneyland Resort Vacation Package, the
cancellation policies work a bit differently. For packages booked more than 31 days before arrival, a $200 deposit would have been due at the time of booking, with final payment due 30 days prior to arrival. If you cancel at least 30 days before your trip, you’ll receive a full refund, including your deposit. Cancellations made between 4 and 29 days before arrival will incur a cancellation fee equal to the $200 deposit. If you need to cancel 3 days or less before arrival, unfortunately, the full price of the package becomes non-refundable.
I know these details can feel like a lot to juggle, but no matter what, Disneyland magic will be waiting for you whenever you’re ready to return. Whether it’s strolling down Main Street, or catching a ride on Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!, your perfect Disney day is just around the corner.
If you have any other questions, Sue, we’re always happy to help you here at planDisney.
Wishing you magic,
David
