Hello Laura!
Thanks for visiting us here at planDisney. We're always glad to "see" a new face.
You are certainly welcome to book a resort-only reservation separately from your
theme park admission. As an Annual Passholder, I've done this when visiting with my family since we all didn't need the same type of admission provided with a room and ticket package. There are advantages and disadvantages to doing this, so let's discuss.
When you book a room and ticket Vacation Package, you can do so with a minimal deposit (currently $200 USD but subject to change). Everyone in your travel party will receive the same number of days of admission and
nights at the resort. You'll have the ability to make payments toward your balance until the final payment is due 30 days before arrival. If you need to modify or cancel, you can
typically do so without penalty as long as it's at least 30 days before your check-in date. This is a convenient way to budget for your trip, but I understand that some guests might want more or fewer park days than others in your group.
As you go through the booking process, the number of tickets will usually default to the same number of nights as your resort stay. However, you can modify the number of ticketed days before reaching the final checkout screen. You should be able to purchase between 2-10 days' worth of admission as part of your package and spread the park visits out across your stay. You'll see specific usage details indicated toward the bottom of the screen once you've made your selections.
Based on a March 1, 2025, arrival, selecting a 2-day ticket with your package would allow you to visit the parks on any two days between March 1 and March 8. If you book a room-only reservation and purchase a 2-day standard theme park ticket separately, your usage window will not be valid beyond the dates indicated when purchasing. As you mentioned, a 2-day ticket can typically be used within a 4-day window. I reached out to a Cast Member who confirmed that this would not change even if you booked a room-only reservation for overlapping dates. You'll still be able to link both purchases to your
My Disney Experience Account, but they will not be considered a Vacation Package in this case. Another thing to consider is that you will be required to pay for the first night of your stay (plus tax) when purchasing a room-only reservation. The remaining balance will be due upon check-in.
I know this is probably not the answer you wanted, but I'm hoping it helps you make a plan for your upcoming visit. If we can offer any further guidance or recommendations please come right back to planDisney and let us know.
Magic and memories,
Amy
