Can I buy an adult dining meal for an 8 year old?

The answer to this depends on whether you are on the Disney Dining Plan or not.

If you are not on the Disney Dining Plan, the answer to your question is, "no problem." When paying out of pocket (cash, credit card, etc.), guests of any age can order from any part of the menu. I recently dined with my sixty-something year old mother at WDW and she often ordered from the children's menus as a means of portion control. And my big-appetite daughter began ordering adult meals when she was about seven years old.

If you are on the Dining Plan things become a bit more complicated. On the Plan, guests ages 3-9 are counted as children and guests ages 10 and up are counted as adults. Children ages 3-9 are required to order from the children's menu whenever there is one. You would be able to supplement her children's meal by purchasing additional food.

If your eight year old prefers adult menu food items or is a particularly big eater, then the Dining Plan might not be the best option for your family.
