How busy is the first day of marathon weekends?

Hi there, George! Welcome to planDisney!

It looks like you're planning on ringing in the new year at The Most Magical Place on Earth! I can't think of a better place to celebrate than at Walt Disney World Resort. There's still a whisper of the holidays in the air and you'll be able to make memories that will keep you feeling magical all year long. And you're right, there is also the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend gearing up, where every mile is magic!

While race weekends bring in many people to Walt Disney World Resort, you're still sure to have a special and magical vacation. The first race day of 2023 will take place on Thursday, January 5 with the Walt Disney World 5K! It usually starts and ends in EPCOT and typically ends earlier in the morning due to it being a shorter race. However, if you're not planning on running, you may want to make a theme park reservation with the Disney Park Pass system for a park other than EPCOT if you want to make sure that the races won't interfere with your park touring. However, in my experience, the more popular races include the half marathon, full marathon, and race challenges, all of which happen a little bit later in the week.

George, as you continue to put the finishing touches of pixie dust on your magical plans, I have a few more tips for you!
    • Be sure that you've made your theme park reservations with the Disney Park Pass system. This is an important step to reserve the parks you wish to visit on each day of your trip!
    • If you'd like to make advance dining reservations, mark your calendar for 60 days prior to your trip! You'll be able to start making these reservations starting at 6 AM, and if you're staying at a Disney Resorts Collection hotel, you'll be able to make all your reservations for the length of your trip (up to 10 days)!
    • Take a little time to download and explore the My Disney Experience app! A little like holding your own magic wand in your hand, you'll be able to check wait times for attractions, view theme park maps, and (my favorite!) mobile order food. This is a great way to minimize waits and maximize the fun!
