Should I budget for taxis? We are coming for our first trip with a 9, 6, and 4 year old. Everything I've read suggests taking a break at noon for a swim and a nap, but I'm worried the disney transporation system will take up too much time.

Hi Barb! Save your extra cash for souvenirs! Even when my family has a car, we often use Disney transportation to travel between our resort and the parks. While you may have to wait 10 minutes or so for a bus or boat to arrive, the travel time to and from the parks is not excessive. Walt Disney World is a big place so it takes 10 to 25 minutes to travel from the various resorts to the parks whether you're using a taxi or Disney transportation. The only times you might want to consider using a taxi would be if you have a very early breakfast reservation at a different resort hotel or if you're traveling from one resort to another. Because the buses don't run between resorts, you have to take a bus to a park and then catch a different bus to travel to the other resort and these trips can take an hour. Scheduling meals at restaurants close to your resort or at the park you're visiting that day or heading to dinner at a resort straight from a park will avoid this problem and the potential need to pay for a cab.

Taking an afternoon break at your resort is a great plan. As long as you arrive at the parks first thing in the morning, you'll be able to experience lots of attractions before you return to your hotel to rest and swim.

Wishing you a magical first Disney vacation! Come visit us again at the Moms Panel if you have more questions! We'd love to help!
