Terri,
With a 10 year old I think that part of the fun is to let him be a little kid, but also acknowledge that he is becoming a big kid too. I would suggest you stay in an Epcot area resort, the Beach Club or Boardwalk Inn, if your budget can afford it. I recommend these for a few reasons;
- The Beach Club has a great resort pool, even for a 10 year old
- The BoardWalk is nearby for both, and a great place for him to have some evening fun at night
- The boat ride proximity to Epcot and Hollywood Studios show him you are 'graduating' him to some of the bigger kid parks
If these are too pricey, consider the Art of Animation (Value+), or Port Orleans Riverside (Moderate).
I would definitely take him to all four theme parks. They all have something fun for a 10 year old, but know that you want to balance out all four, not focus so much time at the Magic Kingdom as you might have when he was 6 or 7. Write me back if you want some attraction suggestions for each park.
As for a great birthday dinner, I would opt for Whispering Canyon Cafe at the Wilderness Lodge. Crazy fun with good food and an adventurous setting.
Finally, if you want to be sure to get all the possible booking discounts, make sure you book through a Disney approved, no-fee agency like MouseFan travel. You pay no extra, and they find the discounts and deals for you.
Write me back if you want to discuss more about how to make his birthday special!
Have a magical vacation!
