I am bringing my 18 mo and 3 yo to DW for the first time . I want to reserve a character breakfast at Chef Mickey's. However, I am afraid that the 18 month old will be scared of the characters. Any advice?

    Hi Rachel,

While most small children love meeting the Disney characters, there is a sizable subset of toddlers and preschoolers who become overwhelmed by them. I have several suggestion on how to make you experience go well.

    - Start by trying to expose your child to some themed characters near home, perhaps at a birthday party, child-centered restaurant, or local fair, or a high school sports game with a mascot. This will give you a sense of how your child might react at Chef Mickey's.

    - Make sure that your child is well rested before attempting the character meal. For a breakfast reservation, this means putting the kids to bed at a reasonable hour, not keeping them up at late night fireworks the evening before.

    - Plan your reservation for late in your trip. Have your child meet some of the Disney characters in the parks at the free meet & greet stations. If this goes well, then you'll likely be fine at the restaurant. If this goes poorly, you'll have ample opportunity to cancel the character meal before incurring any penalties.

I hope everything works out for you, but remember that character meals are just one of the hundreds of things to do at Walt Disney World. If you feel that your child isn't ready now, you can try again during your next visit.

Good luck with your planning. Please let us know what else we can do to help.
