We are bringing our little girl to Disney World to celebrate her first birthday! It’s hers and mama’s first visit! What are some musts to plan? I’d really love to do a smash cake for her with a view of the castle as a photo op, is this possible?

Magical Greetings, Makayla! Welcome to planDisney. I'm so excited to help you with your question!

I'm a girl mama too, and I am delighted to hear you want to celebrate your daughter's special day at Walt Disney World Resort! And it's your first visit too?! We've got ears, say cheers! I have a few tips I would like to share that hopefully will make this visit extra magical!

    • Capture Your Moment: This is a 20-minute photo session at Disney's Magic Kingdom Park! I spoke to a Cast Member about bringing in a smash cake or cupcake for a photo, and while bringing in a cake is allowed, it is up to the Cast Member to take your photos if they want to do it during the photo session. This is also a great opportunity to take your family photo for holiday cards! If you aren't able to do it during your session, I suggest going to Plaza Garden and taking the photo there yourselves! Plaza Garden is my favorite area in front of Cinderella Castle to view all the entertainment and parades!
    • Buttons: Buttons are a fun way to commemorate your two important milestones! Stop by City Hall when you arrive and pick up the "My 1st Visit!" and "Happy Birthday!" buttons! You can also get these buttons personalized (for a small fee) at Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe in Liberty Square! Don't forget to purchase an ornament to commemorate your visit too!
    • Birthday Meal: A first birthday calls for an important meal! Make a reservation at The Crystal Palace for a fun breakfast featuring Winnie the Pooh and Friends! I took my oldest daughter for her sixth birthday here, and plan on bringing my youngest this summer when she turns two!
    • Mickey Celebration Cake: If you don't want to bring in a cake on your own, consider ordering a Mickey Celebration Cake! This yummy treat can be ordered when you make your advanced dining reservation for The Crystal Palace!
    • Embroidered Ears: Stop by Curtain Call Collectibles and purchase special Mickey ears and have them embroidered to commemorate this special day!

Makayla, I hope all of these ideas help with planning a wonderful birthday and first visit to Walt Disney World! Thank you again for visiting planDisney. Feel free to reach out again if you would like additional pixie dust planning for your visit. You've got a friend in me!

    Magic Awaits!
