To bring the stroller or not? We have a big 3.5 year old who doesn't like strollers very well, but he also isn't used to walking that much. I hate to lug it around if we won't need it, but I don't want to carry a 45lb child either! What would you suggest?

Absolutely without any hesitation I can say "Bring the stroller!"  My oldest is 5 and she still needs the stroller, and it is not at all uncommon to see 8-10 year olds taking a turn in a stroller as well.  There is a LOT of walking to be done on a Disney vacation, and even kids much older than your son get tired.  I think he would be thoroughly exhausted without one.  And we all know that tired kids=cranky kids, and cranky kids=cranky parents.  NOT a fun vacation!

There are strollers for rent in the parks, so if you want to leave yours at home you could try that.  We rented once, but much prefer to bring our own from home.  The rental strollers are jogging-style and made of hard plastic, which was not very comfortable for my daughter.  They also do not have any storage basket underneath, which we really missed.  And the cost adds up.  Right now (2/08, but prices are always subject to change) the singles are around $10/day and doubles $18/day, so that can add a significant expense to your trip depending on the length of your stay.  Perhaps the biggest drawback to a rental stroller though is that it's only for use inside the park.  You leave it at the gate when you exit, which means carrying your child (and your bag, and all your souvenirs...) to the parking tram and through the parking lot, or to the bus and around your resort.  That alone can be exhausting, especially with (as you said) a 45 pound child!

Whether you rent or bring your own from home, definitely definitely plan on a stroller.  You will not regret it!
