Thanks for the question, Caroline!
People’s opinions of restaurants vary tremendously. I try to make recommendations based on a mix of my experience and any consensus that I find among the Moms Panelists, and on several Disney-related web sites (allears.net, tourguidemike.com, etc.).
With this in mind, my picks would be Teppan Edo and Crystal Palace.
Why? Here’s more detail…
Crystal Palace is the easier recommendation, as it offers a great buffet selection (breakfast, lunch and dinner) a fun atmosphere and wonderful character interaction. On the other hand, Tony’s Town Square is not a very memorable experience. It's fine, but not very different from eating at a Italian chain restaurant (think Olive Garden).
With the Japanese cuisine options, the decision is much more difficult. Both restaurants offer great cuisine (Tokyo Dining is perhaps a bit more elegant in presentation):
- Teppan Edo is a teppanyaki-style Japanese Steakhouse (think Benihana) where you often share your dining experience with others (each table fits approx 8-10) as you watch your chef prepare the meal in front of you on a large flat grill. Most guests eat grilled steak, chicken or shrimp, but there are other options on the menu (sushi, etc.).
- Tokyo Dining is a more standard Japanese restaurant focused on items like sushi, tempura, and bento boxes.
If you like Japanese food, you really can’t go wrong with either, but (based on my kids) I think your daughters might prefer watching the often entertaining chef at Teppan Edo, rather than simply eating at a sit-down restaurant.
Please be sure to also visit allears.net to review the menus and make sure that the restaurant offers foods that will appeal to everyone in your family.
Even if you convinced by recommendations, I hope I provided enough detail for you to make a more informed decision on your own. Whatever you decide – enjoy!
