Welcome aboard, Missy! My kids are about the same age as your children, and their first snorkeling experience was a couple years ago in the
Snorkel Lagoon at Castaway Cay. I'm so glad we tried that spot as their first snorkeling trip, as it was the perfect place for them, because now they're much more confident when we try out other snorkel adventures with Disney!
Disney's Castaway Cay has a breaker wall out in the sea to lessen the waves that come up to the beach, so the snorkeling spot is much more sheltered than being out in the open ocean. Less waves means smoother waters for the kids who are just trying out this whole breathing through a tube under the water thing! Plus, Disney has hidden some fun surprises under the sea for guests to spot as they snorkel around the lagoon. Keep an eye out for Mickey Mouse! If your kids are on the hunt for Hidden Mickeys, they will be happy to find some here!
I like that our family was in a more secure water area with lifeguards around, and all guests are required to wear life vests while they snorkel. Plus, when your kiddos get tired, they can head back to shore, and go back out a few hours later after they've rested, eaten, and experienced more of the activities on Castaway Cay. You don't get to do that on other snorkel trips!
Have fun as you continue planning your visit to
Castaway Cay, Missy!
