I bought the military salute ticket from my local military travel office. I understand you can upgrade them to an annual pass once you get to the gate, but is there anyway to upgrade it beforehand so that I can get an AP discount on an event?

Hi, Brittany, and welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!

My family and I used our allotment of Walt Disney World Resort’s Military Promotional Tickets for a few years before deciding to become Annual Passholders. We’ve been Passholders since 2016, and we absolutely love the convenience of quick trips to Walt Disney World Resort throughout the year (in addition to the perks like free Memory Maker and Theme Park parking along with discounts on select shopping, dining and entertainment options, too).

I called about your question and was told that since your ticket was purchased on Base, you will need to exchange your unused Military Promotional Ticket for a Walt Disney World Annual Pass at that same location if you want to do so prior to your arrival. The Cast Member I spoke with said you can upgrade your Military Promotional Ticket to an Annual Pass at any Walt Disney World Resort ticket window (including the new ticket office at Disney Springs), but should you choose this option, you will have to pay sales tax on that purchase. If you choose to use all of the days of your Military Promotional Ticket and then purchase an Annual Pass later, you can purchase one through the Shades of Green ticket office at Walt Disney World Resort for the discounted military price (and sales tax free).

Did you know that if you qualify for the specially-priced Military Promotional Ticket then you also qualify for a specially-priced Memory Maker? With an Annual Pass, Memory Maker is included, but you can purchase one at any Walt Disney World Resort ticket window to accompany your Military Promotional Ticket purchase, too. Additionally, you may qualify for discounts on select stays at Walt Disney World Resort hotels! If you’re active duty or retired from the U.S. Military, you can also stay at Shades of Green, a resort hotel dedicated to U.S. service members and their families. (It’s our home-away-from-home for most of our Walt Disney World Resort vacations!)

Let us know if you have any other questions as you begin planning your Walt Disney World Resort vacation, Brittany. We’re happy to help!
