We borrowed half of our 2022 points this year. I'd like to make a DVC reservation for February, but our Use Year is March. With the current rules about borrowing points, am I not able to make a February reservation?

    Welcome Home, Kara!

It’s always fun to see a Guest return to see us here on planDisney! And I especially enjoy helping my fellow Disney Vacation Club Members. With the closing of the parks and resorts during the initial states of the pandemic, things have become a bit more complex when managing and using Vacation Points. Until last year, I had never lost a single Vacation Point! Sadly the pandemic put an end to my streak, but we have been lucky enough to use our Membership for several visits since the reopening.

When travel shut down, this caused a backlog of Disney Vacation Club Vacation Points. These Vacation Points would have ordinarily been used by Members for resort stays, cruises, Adventure by Disney trips, and even RCI trips around the world. Even when things reopened, many travelers were still hesitant and so held off making travel plans, causing even more Vacation Points to build up in the system. To help Disney Vacation Club Members with current and expiring Vacation Points find room to use those Vacation Points, Disney Vacation Club put a limitation on the number of Vacation Points Members could borrow from their upcoming Use Year. At this time, DVC has not stated when this limitation will end, but my guess is that it may be another year or perhaps more to bring a "balance to the Force."

Kara, since you’ve already borrowed half of your Vacation Points from your March 2022 Use Year, you will be unable to borrow any more. Unfortunately, you are correct that this means you are unable to book February 2022 with your March 2022 Vacation Points. If you still have Vacation Points from your March 2021 Use Year though, you could use those for a February 2022 stay.

I’m sorry this isn’t probably the answer you were hoping for. You could call Member Services to inquire about discounted cash rooms during that time. Availability varies, but typically Members receive a discount on cash stays in Disney Vacation Club Villas.

I hope you’ll come back to see us here again on planDisney, Kara. And know you can always send any additional questions about your Disney Vacation Club Membership. We are here to help!

    Wishing you Membership Magic!
