We have a booking at Akershus Royal Hall for dinner coming up. My seven year old twins are super picky and I am worried about the prefixed family style Norway food. Is there kid options available?

    Hi Allison,

Welcome to planDisney! As a self-proclaimed Disney foodie and mom to two picky eaters, I've learned about (and enjoyed) my fair share of dining at Walt Disney World Resort. I think you'll all be in for a treat when you visit Akershus Royal Banquet Hall on your next visit!

I took a look at the menu and noticed macaroni & cheese and mini corn dogs are both listed as part of the Princess Storybook Dining offerings. My daughter has also been known to enjoy mashed potatoes when the mood strikes, and you'll find those available during your royal banquet as well. I know these items are usually a hit with my own kids, but if yours aren't a fan I'd like to mention one of my own recent experiences.

We dined at Steakhouse 71 at Disney's Contemporary Resort a few months ago, and while my son was thrilled to order his own steak, my daughter was less than excited about the menu. Our server came by and let us know that there were a few other kid-friendly options not listed. Luckily, we were able to find something she felt comfortable eating. While I can't make any guarantee that this will be the case at Akershus, it never hurts to ask your server. Cast Members try to make magic as often as they can so I'll cross my fingers for a bit of pixie dust during your meal if the listed foods aren't a hit with your twins.

If you've asked and no alternate items are available, I'd take the opportunity to let your kids sample anything they seem curious about once the meal arrives. They may surprise you and be more open to trying new foods if they know an assortment of Disney Princesses may be stopping by for a visit during their meal. The medieval castle scenery and the promise of dessert will likely keep them motivated to broaden their culinary horizons.

EPCOT is home to so many fantastic dining options I know will find something to please your kid's palates. After your dinner stop by Karamell-Küche in the Germany Pavilion for a Werther's Original Caramel Butter Bar or a bag of freshly made Caramel Popcorn. It's the perfect treat to enjoy while you travel back to your resort for the night. You can even Mobile Order these treats right from your My Disney Experience App.

From one mom of picky eaters to another, I hope this helps put you at ease. Feel free to stop back and ask us any additional planning questions!

    Bon Appétit!
